How to Download Westpac Bank Statements as CSV or Excel
Westpac Online Banking supports CSV export for up to around 18 months of transactions. The mobile app doesn't have this feature. Here's how to do it from a desktop, what to expect from the file, and how to get older data when you need it.
Only have a PDF statement? Use our Westpac Statement Converter to extract your transactions instantly — no manual copy-pasting.
Convert Westpac PDF →Exporting transactions from Westpac Online Banking
The export option is only available through Westpac Online Banking on a desktop browser. It is not in the Westpac mobile app.
- 1Log in to Westpac Online Banking at westpac.com.au
Use your Customer ID and password.
- 2Select the account from your accounts overview
Click the account name to open its transaction history view.
- 3Look for the "Export" or download option
This appears above or near the transaction list. Depending on the account type, it may be labeled Export, Download, or shown as a small icon.
- 4Set the date range and file format
Select your date range, then choose CSV for spreadsheet use. OFX is the better choice if you're importing directly into Xero or MYOB. QIF is a legacy format for older software.
- 5Download and open the file
The CSV file downloads to your device. Open it in Excel or Google Sheets, or import it into your accounting tool.
Westpac data not going back far enough?
Our converter turns Westpac PDF statements into clean CSVs — upload multiple months at once.
What's in the Westpac CSV file
The Westpac CSV export contains: transaction date, narrative (description), debit amount, credit amount, and running balance. Debits and credits are in separate columns, which makes it easy to filter or sum one type without the other.
One quirk: Westpac transaction descriptions often include a merchant location or card number reference appended after the business name. This doesn't cause any issues for importing, but if you're doing automated categorisation by description, you may want to clean these up with a find-and-replace pass in Excel first.
Date range and what "18 months" actually means
Westpac's transaction export covers approximately 18 months. This is more generous than CommBank or ANZ, but it still has limits. The 18-month window is from the current date, so in April 2026, the earliest you can reliably export is around October 2024.
If you need data outside that window, the path is the same as every other bank: download the PDF statements from Westpac Online Banking's Statements section, then convert them.
Need Westpac data older than 18 months?
Go to the Statements section in Westpac Online Banking and download the monthly PDFs for the periods you need, then convert them in seconds. You can upload multiple months at once and get everything in a single combined CSV.
Westpac savings and term deposit accounts
The export process is the same for Westpac eSaver and other savings products. However, term deposit accounts may not have an export option since they have very few transactions. For those, the PDF statement is usually the only output format available.
If you hold both an Everyday and a savings account and want consolidated data, you'll need to export each account separately and combine the CSVs. There's no way to export multiple accounts in a single Westpac download.
Opening Westpac CSV in Excel
Double-clicking the file opens it in Excel for most users. If the data appears squashed into one column, use the import method:
- Excel: Data > From Text/CSV, pick the file, set delimiter to Comma
- Google Sheets: File > Import, upload the file, select comma-delimited
